Episode 6: Bryson Turner

Bryson TurnerA final dispatch for this series of Stand Up Underground, this time from New York City.

My guest is NYC comic transplant and former Funniest Person in Austin, Bryson Turner. We discuss why he moved to New York, what material does or does not work in different parts of the country, finding inspiration outside of comedy, religion, Australian history, not being a dick, looking foolish in front of Bill Burr, Mike DeStefano’s legacy and more.

Keen-eared listeners may even hear an audio cameo by Marlowe the cat.

Follow Bryson on twitter or read his excellent blog, The Comedy Hajj.

Our theme music is ‘Up To No Good’ by Lee Rosevere.

Re: Racial Integration: I dun think Australia is doing that badly in terms of integration comparing with either 1st world countries or 3rd world countries. IMHO Britain hardly reconciled with its Immigration experience and pocket still exist. Than again the “British” identity is hugely fragmented even within its white population.

One reason Australia come across as more racially “backward” is because it never have a major racial “incidents” like the ones experienced in the States or South Africa to forced Australia into an intospection on its own identity. Cronulla riots won’t even make it to the footnotes of history of racial violence.
